Lung functions exhibit a circadian rhythm. Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) is an easily measured and reproducible parameter for measuring lung functions. Limited information available on the variations in south Indian adolescents. Hence, this study was undertakento evaluate diurnal variation of PEFR This longitudinal conducted among 30 adolescent girls age group 18-19 years recruited from hostel Chirala, Andhra Pradesh. Smokers, pregnant women subjects with history tuberculosis were excluded study. using Mini — Wright s, peak flow meter, four times day (5.30 – 6.00 am, 12.00-1.00 pm, 5.00-6.00 9-10.00pm) function calculated. The values at different time points analyzed analysis variance. Statistical significance taken 5% level significance. Amplitude % Mean Standard deviation used to estimate PEFR. mean recorded 5.30 12.00 noon, 5.00 pm 9.00 340, 347, 349 348 respectively. amplitude standard obtained 8.42 ± 3.65and 3.87±1 C results indicate that adolescents exhibits definite rhythm, it being lowest early morning, progressively rises till late afternoon following which there slight fall night.
